Let's kick off

We’re all set to officially take off with the brand new blog of the Italian Institute of Culture – IIC in Jakarta by warmly welcoming all our readers.
While IIC is already available online with its institutional website (at the following url: http://iicjakarta.esteri.it /IIC_Jakarta), the idea of this space originates from different intents.
Since its establishment, the Institute of Culture has been actively committed to putting in touch two cultures that are as rich as diverse – the Italian and the Indonesian – yet bear profound respect for one another. Recognizing that there is always a lot to learn from the others’ experiences, the Institute acts as a bridge between two peoples that have much to tell and are eager to listen.
Many Indonesians – as happening elsewhere in the world – envisage Italy as a marvelous country packed with historical, cultural and artistic heritage. One country blessed by sun, home to delicious food, world-known for its football successes. And so are seen Italians, as good, friendly, open-minded people, willing to help and listen whenever that is needed.
Italians in Jakarta are only a few, yet especially for that reason they have a great responsibility in promoting the image of Italy. We should never forget that above all we ourselves are the primary ambassadors of our country when abroad.
As to our role, the Institute contributes to promoting the Italian spirit through films and photo exhibitions, cultural events, concerts, and debates. It also runs courses of Italian language taught by native speakers. More generally, the Institute aims to be the reference point for all those Indonesians who wish to get a taste of Italy and approach its culture.
Let’s make them feel at home.
